2. Are you a Top Hooker?

This is nuts but…hold on…a new fishing reality show! That never happens….

Anyhow, producers are looking to cast a show apparently called Top Hooker that kinda sounds like Survivor + fishing, so if that’s your thang, go for it. Deets at the link above, but I can’t vouch for ’em. Note this line waaaaaay at the bottom:

If you are selected as a cast member, you will be provided a minimal monetary honorarium intended to help with some expenses back home while you are competing for the Grand Prize.

Sounds like another way to starve in fishin’….

3. Where are the bassin’ bums?

Question I asked today on BassParade. Reminded of it by this pic:

That’s Gary Klein on the right, and father of flippin’ Dee Thomas. Back when folks fished because they couldn’t get enough of it, no other reason. When bassers were bassin’ “bums” as in ski bums, surf bums, etc.

Said in the post on BassParade that I’m betting (hoping) there’s a bassin’ bum or two out there that doesn’t care about TV or sublimated jerseys, just cares about wackin’ basses. If so, can’t wait to meet ’em….

How deep do you do the shakey?

Billy Stanton, derby angler and guide on Nashville-area lakes, talking about fishing what BassGold calls “upland reservoirs,” meaning steeper, deeper lakes:

> Stanton has been [in August] fishing points and focusing on the 30-foot zone. He makes a cast and feeds line, then slowly shakes his rod tip or simply works it like a plastic worm.

> Slow is key, he says, to get the bigger bites. “A lot of times I cast it and shake it a little and let it sit there for 30 seconds. It can be a very subtle bite.”

> Stanton fishes his shakey head on 8-lb fluorocarbon and a 6′ 8″ medium-heavy G. Loomis Mossyback rod. He likes the backbone of the medium-heavy action and the fast tip for long casts.

> Lately his YUM Houdini worm color of choice has been watermelon redflake, but smoke and red pepper also is a good choice.
