1. Official: 2014 Classic at Guntersville!

Woo-hoo! That should be one for the ages. Can’t wait!

2. This is a Chinese bassin’ boat.

Ah, yep. From a story on BassinFan about FLW pro Scott Martin taking in a made-in-China bassin’ derby. Interesting read.

> Martin said the boats are the most conspicuous difference between a Chinese derby and an American event. The largest he saw might’ve been 15 feet.

> “They were all aluminum, either flat- or V-bottom, and they build wooden decks for them with carpeting and (cutouts for) recessed trolling-motor pedals. Almost all of them were wrapped and there was a good mixture of American and traditional Chinese companies represented.

Can’t wait to see the leg room in Chinese cars!

Article also said this: “FLW has begun sanctioning events there.” Sanctioning?

3. Reaction Innovations bait-naming contest.

Just in case you thought Andre Moore was getting a little soft…!

Yikes. I voted for Purple Nurple…which I might’ve preferred to vote for on Tuesday (lol)….

Tip of the Day

Fall topwaters: transitioning from frogs to shad.

Cali’s Gabe Bolivar:

> In fall, bass in general transition to shad. That’s why the frog bite starts to wane. “You can still catch them on a frog, but a topwater like a buzzbait or a Lucky Craft Sammy is usually a better choice, especially for consistency.”

> “A little later in the day, if the sun gets up and you can find a shaded pocket, you might get a big frog fish.”

> There’s a fine line during fall anglers have to be aware of. You don’t want to overlook a topwater bite because it could be smoking. But at the same time, the topwater bite does fade quickly, and you need to recognize it when it happens.

> “They’ll feed on a topwater – it’ll be a good bait – but when they stop biting it you need to put it down. It seems there’s always a window when they get off it. That’s when you maybe go to another reaction bait like a lipless crank or squarebill crank.

> “It doesn’t take long to figure it out. If you go out to a local lake and try throwing a topwater, and you’re not catching much, put it down. Don’t push it.”

Quote of the Day

Since the Junior Bassmaster inception in 2004, of the 18 available titles – nine in the 11-14 age group and nine in the 15-18 age group – kids from Washington state have won four of them, more than any other state.

– Impressive – and pretty darn surprising – stat from an article on Nik Autrey of Spokane’s Inland Empire Bass Club winning the 15-18 year old division of the 2012 Junior Bassmaster World Championship on Wilson Lake in Alabama on Oct. 27.

Tryin’ to think whether any fishing companies are in Washington…. D. Loomis? B. Loomis? Something like that? (Lol, they will read this!)
