1. WTHeck happened to KVD?!

The Bassin’Fan World Rankings caught my eye today. KVD is..7th?! And not only that, he’s 25 points off the lead?!

Don’t think I’ve ever seen him out of the top 2 or 3. And as one of the guys who created that ranking system, I’m surprised. Word is it’s no different now…wonder if may be it should be?

Or is the VanDaminator really fishing that, uh…bad?

Tip of the Day

Altering bait profiles.

Kinda rolling your own. Interesting:

> You can take the standard profile of certain lures and change it with easy modifications and catch fish others miss. Spinnerbaits, vibrating jigs, and buzzbaits all have one thing in common—a silicone or rubber skirt. The skirt gives the lures bulky pulsating profiles.

> In recent years, we’ve seen anglers like Bryan Thrift pull the skirts off these type baits and catch a lot of bass from areas other anglers have recently fished. He’s known to put a bait like a Zoom Horny Toad on a buzzbait to catch bass.

> The change in profiles gives the bait a different action and appearance in the water. Makes them easier to cast to tight targets or skip under cover.

> A Horny Toad on a buzzbait helps keep the buzzbait up and it seems to glide over grass a little better. A chatterbait with a swimbait on its body skips well.

> Use Super Glue or Loc Tite to secure your soft plastics to the heads so you can fish all day this way without having to constantly fix your baits.

– FLW stick Dave Lefebre from the above interview.  Also said: It’s just a lot different from any other sport that way. I don’t know if there’s another sport – maybe golf – where you can be called a good athlete in that particular sport and not have a single win in 2 years.

Not real sure golfers are athletes, but we get it Dave!
