Today's Top 3

Gal named Sandy breathing down our necks here in Jersey so not sure if we'll be getting a Blaster out the next couple o' days….

1. The reality is that MLF is not good for fishing as a whole – it only benefits the select anglers who are fishing in MLF.

– PAA prez Dave Mansue on Major League Fishing saying what everyone in the bassin' biz who is not in MLF has been saying. From a great interview on BassZone.com.

2. Fed Classic qualifiers: 1997 all over again?

Check this:

> IN's Mark Dove won this weekend's Federation Nation Championship on AL's Wheeler Lake. This is the second time he qualified for the Classic: He also did it through the Fed in 1997.

> In this tourney, he was helped the first 2 days by a secret pattern given to him by none other than Dalton Bobo – who, in addition to having one of the easiest bassin' names to remember, almost won the Classic as a Fed qualifier…in 1997.

> He lost to Dion Hibdon by 1 ounce that year, at AL's Logan Martin, because he weighed in a dead bass the last day and was hit with a 4-oz penalty. Dang!

> One of the Federation anglers in that Classic was Zimbabwe's Gerry Jooste, who also qualified this weekend for another Classic. No word on whether Dalton gave him help too….

Weird, eh? Does this mean one o' these guys will carry on Bryan Kerchal's legacy? Would be cool….

3. Zona and Mercer talk BassGold.

Don't take my word for it:

> A post-season analysis of the predictions run here on Bassmaster.com showed that BassGold predicted with an astounding 92 percent accuracy the winning patterns and weights of Elite events.

> Zona: "I've been watching BassGold this year and it's simply amazing. It will eventually be a tool everyone uses.

> "In some way, BassGold falls into line with side-imaging, Power-Poles and the HydroWave. This is all stuff fishermen don't think they need until they see it used to their benefit. I have to see things with my own eyes, and I've seen how BassGold helps."

> Mercer: "When I first heard about it I thought, 'Yeah, it'll give simple pattern info everyone knows.' But how in tune it is with exactly what technique it will take and the weights – it just takes the guessing out of everything, which is what we've all searched for our whole lives, if you ask me."

> "Week after week I was amazed how in tune BassGold was with what it takes to win. I honestly do believe that. I was blown away at how dialed in and how perfect it is. It's crazy!"

> "BassGold is its own worst enemy. Just like when a really good bait comes along, when fishermen find something good, it's in their nature to keep it secret. And that's BassGold. Guys know it works, but they don't want to talk about it…."

Discount offer expiring in just a couple days….

That makes JVD an official:

Tip of the Day

Don't fall for sketchy CL boat deals.

> A Tennessee resident responded to a local Craigslist ad for a boat for sale with a Wisconsin title. The boat was advertised as being stored in Brookfield, Wis. The sale also involved a Wisconsin law firm to handle the transaction.

> The "seller" stated that it was a mix-up that the boat appeared for sale nationwide on Craigslist. The seller wanted the asking price to be held by a Brookfield law firm. A copy of the title was provided to the buyer. The title is fraudulent. The Brookfield law firm does not exist. The buyer became suspicious and did not complete the transaction.

Quote of the Day

With the financial health of both B.A.S.S. and FLW being so uncertain, there is no better time than now for all anglers to come together.

– Dave Manuse from the above interview. Does he know something we don't know or is it the bassin' rumor mill again? He also said: "My hope is that my comments here are recognized as a call for unity and not a source of division. I am very passionate about this sport and what it means to present and future anglers."
