Aussie Angler Coming Here to Fish Bigs

That's Jocumsen on left, pal Stoner on right (The Chronicle photo).

Japanese fishermen sure have made their mark here, but not many (any?) from Australia. Then again, Japan has black bass, Australia – nope. In fact, in Queensland you can get up to a $200K penalty for stocking them. Harsh!

Nevertheless, Australia has fish and fishermen, and at least one of those fishermen wants to play in the bigs – here. In fact, he’s supposed to step on U.S. lakeshores in January.

Excerpts from The Chronicle, an Australian newspaper:

> Fellow anglers and a high-powered friend are combining to help champion Toowoomba fisherman Carl Jocumsen realize his dream of competing professionally in the United States.

> Jocumsen, who is among the country’s leading bass anglers, is due to head to the States in January in the next step of his career.

> To aid Jocumsen’s American challenge, a fund-raising fishing tournament has been organized to help pay for his trip. “I’ve been absolutely blown away by the support I’ve received from family and friends ahead of this trip,” Jocumsen said. “Money is the only thing that can hold me back from giving this a good shot, and this fund-raising weekend will be an unbelievable help to me.”

> Joining the weekend activities will be Jocumsen’s friend and 2007 MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner. “Casey has been a huge supporter of mine, and it’s just fantastic he can be a part of the weekend,” Jocumsen said.

Look out, mates!

Kim Bain-Moore kind of did the same thing, she made the switch pretty well

“You pays your money, you takes your chances”. We welcome our Aussie brother to our shores. Anybody that can land a couple of nice Barramundi like those is already a good fisherman.

I wonder if he will be taking the Kim Bain, be a Co-angler first approach.
