Was reading the other day an old article about short-armed spinnerbaits. In it Basil Bacon was talking about when spinnerbaits were first used in bassin’.
Said they were first used only at night – I’m guessing because they don’t look remotely like anything natural. Then at some point a brave bassin’ soul decided to try one during the day and, lo and behold, it caught some fishes.
Of course, back then the basses were dumberer, but it worked well enough that it caught on. And wouldn’t ya know it, it still catches our modern-day genius basses, especially when the one named KVD is retrieving it with the magic fairy dust he sprinkles on it or whatever he does.
To come back around here: Any night bassers out there reserve some baits ONLY for night bassin’? If so, what are they – and maybe they should be brought into the light….

It’s not magic fairy dust KVD sprinkles on his lures, it’s lucky cookie crumbs. His wife uses Smelly Jelly instead of margarine in the recipe…

I fish a lot at night during the summer and really don’t change baits or colors at all at night. A shad or bluegill doesn’t change colors at night, so why should my bait, right? The only thing I do different is change locations, even in the heat of summer I’ll fish super shallow at night.
