Today's Top 4

1. Another AL cheater caught?

So says Wired2Fish, which gives no source for its reporting:

> Steven Macon of Pell City, Ala., was arrested and charged by the Pell City Police Department. He allegedly was caught on video by the Alabama Game and Fish officers on a tip, taking a fish out of a basket under a dock and putting it into his livewell then later bringing it to the scales at the D&S Tournament at Riverside on Logan Martin on Tuesday, June 17 in a one fish, big bass tournament.

> Local eyewitnesses confirmed that as soon as he put the bass on the scales, G&F and Alabama Marine Police stepped in and made the arrest. He was taken to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

Here comes someone we can ask about this whole cheating thing…hey, hold on sir!

2. Near fatal accident on Wheeler.

Hit a log then:

> A split second after impact all I felt was a huge jolt between my shoulder blades and the loud screaming of the RPMs of a boat motor landing on me, crushing me between it, the steering wheel and my console.

> The big motor had broken from its motor mounts and flew into the boat over the stern. The outboard was still running, prop still turning and 600 plus pounds of metal and blades impacting everything and everyone in its path like a mini metal tornado.

> The main motor section hit me in the back while the lower unit section landed on my partner. The skeg of the motor broke as it impacted his head leaving a huge gash. The…prop tore thru his pants cutting his leg.

> The prop, still turning about 5,000 RPMs, hit my leg tearing into flesh. The outboard followed a path of destruction up and over my head with a slight impact on my left shoulder and only nicking my rib cage but with tremendous force. The entire motor went over my right shoulder into the water.

Here's the least nasty of the 3 pics of the wounds. Click here if'n you wanna look-see the rest.

3. Whole 4-pounder in pike.

Whole! Why they cut it open:

Not a rarity btw. Here's a musky eats smallie vid:

Fave line: Guy wonders how long it'll take to see the musky, Al Lindner says, "Who cares?" Hahaha dang right!

4. Bassin' Babe of the Week.

Tip of the Day

Charlie Hartley: New to Strollin'.

Finished in the top 10 at the BASSFest Second Chance Qualifier on Nickajack Lake doin' somethin' he didn't know too well: strollin', aka long-linin'.

> The first half of the day I went to the bank like a chicken like I always do.

> …went out to a shoal and I started strolling with a 6XD and lost a giant on the first stroll. I turned the boat around, strolled that 6XD out again and lost another giant on the second pass. I’d never done it before, so I had no idea how to keep the fish on.

> …before I went out and tried it, I kept telling myself that strolling…can’t be rocket science. I was sure that I could figure out how to do it, and I was right.

> I’d make a long cast and then stroll out about 100 feet or more of line before starting my retrieve.

> It’s not about getting the bait to a specific depth, it’s more about how long the bait is down there. When you get the bait to the bottom on a standard cast, it’s only down there for about 15 feet. When you stroll, it’s down there for a good 100 feet.

> Even when you hook one and lose it when you’re strolling, another one will usually grab the bait.

Quote of the Day

I can usually just stroke them, but now somebody can come behind me throwing plastics and whip my butt.

Crankin' master David Fritts talkin' 'bout practice at the Kentucky Lake FLW ledge-fest this-here week. Also said:

> "I know this lake really well, but with GPS, everybody else knows it, too. It used to be 20 or 30 guys fishing this way, but now you've got 160 doing it because anybody with GPS can find them. It's become such an important tool."
