AL cheaters jailed, $ or no bait love, Day 2 zero = win!

Welcome to the new-lookin’ BassBlaster! Hope you dig it, tho we’ll keep messin’ with it to make it better. Rawk on!

Today’s Top 4

AL cheaters jailed.

Dude, you do not mess wiff bassin’ in Alabamia!

> Two Marshall County men charged with cheating in a Guntersville bass tournament were found guilty and sent to jail.

> After a 4-hour trial, a district court judge…found [them] guilty of theft by deception and tampering with a sporting event. They were ordered to a year suspended jail sentence, provided they serve 30 days, serve 400 hours of community service at Lake Guntersville State Park, two years probation, and each pay $1,000 and court costs.

Reminds me of this:

And how ’bout those replacement refs past night, sheesh!

If companies want their products mentioned, they have to pay.

AR River Central Open winner Mark Tyler, who by saying that ironically missed his chance to get in good with a bait company…. Maybe next time Mark!

So…he fished plastics and a crankbait. #boring

Largies + smallies = MN win.

Now this is how you do it Mark!

Scott Bonnema, MN B.A.S.S. Nation Tournament of Champions, Lake Vermilion Sept. 4-5, won with 33.25 lbs, beat 169 other anglers.

> …offshore, reef-relating bronzebacks on a variety of presentations including Rapala Skitter Walks, X-Raps and Trigger X tubes.

> On the largemouth front…California Reservoir Lures jig-and-craw combos and Trigger X Slop Hoppers produced fish in Vermilion’s fertile weedbeds.

Scott and Kelly Jordon maybe separated at birth?

2-day BFL won with day 2 zero!

This ever happen before??

> George Taylor of Dresden, TN weighed a 2-day total of five bass for 20-14 to win the Illini Division Super Tournament on Lake Shelbyville Sunday.

> “I caught them on jigs, just one here and one there. I caught two in one creek and three in another. I wasn’t even doing that well in practice and I didn’t have any kind of pattern.

> “They just shut down on me on Sunday. I never even had a keeper-sized fish on. Going back to the weigh-in, I never thought I’d win without weighing a fish. I’ve never done well up on Lake Shelbyville, so this is just a blessing.”

> He caught all his fish on a candy craw-colored 1/2-oz Strike King jig.

More stout BFL doin’s comin’ tomorrow.

News

1. David Gregg passes.

From Mark Davis’ Facebook page:

> Sad news of long time BASS family member David Gregg has passed. He was one of those that shared the gospel with us and our families as we traveled. We are thankful for men like him, @Chris Wells and others who take time to do that for the fishing world. Thoughts and prayers with Linda and his family in this time.

Obit here. Dang. RIP bassin’ brother.

2. Pirch selling US Open Nitro.

3. Aussie makes Elites.

Dude came here to do it, did it = Stout. Now reality sets in….

4. First Aussie B.A.S.S. champ.

> Troy Danes has claimed the inaugural Megabass B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Championship at Lake Glenbawn by the smallest of margins.

> On both days…Danes went to the 8 knot zone and had his bag by 7.30 am which took the pressure off and allowed him to fish freely throughout the session. He caught around a dozen fish on day one and only five fish on day two.

> With only 30 minutes to go Troy made a decision to move to the Narrows where he replaced a small 600 gram bass with a 1.54 kg kicker.

This is an Aussie “bass” btw:

Knot zones? Not black basses? Grams?? #bizarrobassworld

Btw this is the funniest gram ever – Mema!

5. MO: Bush speaks at Tracker event.

If he was that big a bass fisherman, he woulda changed his name to “Brush” by now hahaha!

6. WI: Cool fishing derby for vets.

7. CO: Bass trout threat in CO River?

Doh!

1. Forgot the awesome (not) smallie pic from Mille Lacs, MN last week. Check it:

Bait of the Week

This time it’s the Strike King Hack Attack jig – cuz Hack won the last Elite with it and he’s leading the Toyota AOY points going into this weekend’s big AOY derby. Here’s the exact jig he won the last one with, which you can read more about here. Bottom line is Hack loves a jig and grass, and Strike King built this for that…and a bit more.

Tip of the Day

Dustin Wilks: Spoonin’ for bass.

Anyone still do this?

> “I watch for shad swimming off the banks in the fall. When I see shad swimming just under the surface near the shoreline, I throw a white spinnerbait right behind them and crank it back to me.”

> Another standby lure that’s overlooked by a lot of fishermen…a casting spoon with a white, soft-plastic trailer.

> The Johnson Original Silver Minnow in 1/2-oz or lighter is hard to beat for this fishing technique. It won’t sink too quickly, and the plastic trailer will give it added buoyancy.

> Trailers can be almost any soft-plastic bait, from a twintail grub to a plastic worm to a Fluke – as long as it’s white. Good choices include Mister Twist Poc’it Phenoms or Hang 10, Gambler Flapp’n Shad, Strike King Blade Minnow, Zoom Fluke Stick or Fluke Stick Jr….

> “When I’m fishing for fall bass, I like to see where the shad are running along the bank, then I cast parallel to the bank.”

Quote of the Day

Jordan is just the tip of the iceberg.

Bassmaster college head dude Hanky Weldon talkin‘ ’bout Jordan Lee makin’ the Elites and, apparently, we should expect more of the same. VERY interesting and smart move by B.A.S.S. – different than the other college programs. Think about it.

Shot of the Day

Looks like Randy the Howeller found some fatties in MI – and can ketch smallies even when, you know, dressed not so hip…. (C’mon Howell!)

For contrast, here’s Swindle. No fish in this shot but:

    RE: Alabama Cheaters
I hope they try to escape like in Shawshank Redemption, but get stuck in the sewer pipe on chilli night in the cafeteria.

    RE: MN Win
Smallies here love those Trigger X tubes too. Way to go Scott!

    RE: Aussie Makes Elites
That is awesome! It’s becoming a pretty diverse field with anglers from different countries. Let’s hope he can get Foster’s to do his wrap for him. Mmmmmm… beer!
