Another American Shot at Falcon Lake

Did you hear about the recent incident involving another American, a bass fisherman, that was shot while fishing Falcon lake?

No? Hmm, that doesn’t make any sense. The jetski tragedy was all over national news. Why didn’t this situation get that kind of run? Because it has nothing to do with Falcon’s infamous drug pirates, but rather an act of “pure stupidity” on the part of the angler according to Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez. [Sigifredo? I like that. Might have to be the name of my next dog.]

Here’s the scenario. You’re fishing the American side of Falcon Lake and you hear gun shots. Do you…

A) …throw down your rod, yank up your trolling motor and high-tail it to another part of the lake?

B) …do nothing and keep on fishing?

C) …move CLOSER to the sound of the gun shots?

If you chose C, you’re probably just as much a candidate for a Darwin Award as this genius basser that took some wayward lead in the arm. Yep, you heard right. After hearing gun shots on the bank of Falcon freaking Lake, the guy moved closer. Turns out somebody was doing a little target practice [‘cuz that’s how we roll in Texas] and Billy Bob Basshole trolled right into the line of fire, got capped and had to be airlifted to safety [hopefully they dropped him off at the looney bin].

Just to prove I’m not making this stuff up, here’s a link to the story at CNN.com.

And in case you were wondering, Alton Jones says Falcon is still “on fire”. Check out his blog post at Bassmaster.com today for an up-to-date report. The moral of the story: Get your butt down to falcon, pronto! Just don’t go running to the sound of gunfire like it’s a bell on an ice cream truck and you’ll be alright.

One time I was working maint at an apartment complex and they had these stupid blackbirds that kept nesting in the trees. So to get rid of them they bought me this starter pistol thing that shot a small explosive round about 40 feet in the air at which time it exploded and scared the birds off. I was to do this every evening around dusk so the birds would go elsewhere to roost for the night.

So I start shooting these things off one evening and a bunch of people come running out of their apartments toward me. Person after person came up and said they came OUT of their apartments because they thought they heard gunshots. Get that? They left the relative safety of their apartments to go to what they thought was a gunbattle. None of them had weapons. None of them said they were there to help. They just ran toward gunshots without thinking what that might mean.

In conclusion, people are stupid. The end.

Just curious as to how any boater could even get into a line of target practice fire while on the water??? Your article incredibly does not mention the fool whose bullets are flying across the lake. “Cuz that’s how we roll in Texas” – are you serious?

You know what’s sheer stupidity.. Target practicing with firearms with no clear backstop. Regardless of how stupid the fisherman is, these clowns should be cited for shooting without a backstop.
