50-lb limit!, fargin ice holes, best spybait vid?

Welcome to Jay Kumar’s BassBlaster, your daily-ish email of the best o’ bassin’!

Today’s Top 5

1. 5 bass, 49.8 pounds!

John Pearl and Jason Kincannon, Clear Lake.

> Although the fish weren’t weighed on a certified scale, there were a number of witnesses and the fish were photographed.

> A check online for the best five-fish limit in Clear Lake tournaments revealed that during a Bassmaster tournament in 2001 Dean Rojas had a five-fish limit weighing 45 pounds. The record for WON BASS is 32.83 pounds.

> …caught their fish in the south end of the lake in less than 5′ on crankbaits and swimbaits.

2. Few more days like this and I’ll be looking for a good, used ice hole digger thing.

– Hahaha! Kevin Short, summin’ up the insanity of the polar weather transported down south-a-ways.

Wait…did he say “ice hole”? Don’t say that – could end up with yer bells in a sling (click it if you have no idea what I’m talkin’ ’bout):

3. Mike Folkestad took your $$!

If’n you live on the Left Coast anyhoo.

4. Best spybait vid yet?

Gotta say I thought the whole spybait thing was bull. I mean, it ain’t dropshottin’. Also have not watched every spybaitin’ vid. But I think this one, just posted by Duo and FLWer Casey Martin, is good.

5. The Tackle Tour guys are ninjas!

That’ll leave a mark….

Okay, make bertend. Guess I’ll be:

Be there in a sec, Valerie! Hahaha!

Tip of the Day

Shin Fukae: Rig yer own boat.

> I have been working on the boat to finish everything up in time for the start of the season. I usually install all of my boat equipment – MotorGuide trolling motor, Power-Poles, GPSs and some other stuff – by myself.

> The reason I do this is so I can check and fix all of my equipment by myself in case I have to take it to a dealership or service center later on if issues arise.

> I also like having my own settings on my equipment and want to have some thinking time to make it better.

Makes a lotta sense – for someone who has the time….
