Today's Top 5

1. Dude wins 3 in a row…

…at Beaver Lake, AR, PLUS got big bass in all 3. No it's not the Elites or whatever, but that's still stout!

> Mike White of Garfield is batting a thousand. He's three for three, having won the first three Beaver Lake Competitive Series bass tournaments of 2014…[and] the largest bass of the tournament.

> He's done it by fishing water most anglers ignore. Instead of working cover along the shoreline, White likes to prowl open water far off shore.

2. DUI dude backs boat into cop!

This was at my home lake in NJ, too funny:

> Police said Patrolman Michael Akers was hit by a boat trailer attached to a 2001 Jeep Cherokee…allegedly attempting to back up….

> Patrolman Umair Latif was called to investigate the incident. He allegedly smelled alcohol on Fiorilla’s breath and arrested him. Latif charged Fiorilla with driving while intoxicated and failure to produce proof of registration. He was released to the custody of a responsible adult and his vehicle was towed and impounded.

3. Ethanol may INCREASE warming??

I vote yes! Claws are out in the corn vs. reality showdown in the Asylum, D.C. Git ready fer this:

4. Vikes' Greenway's bass boat rescue.

Chad Greenway of the purple team helps folks whose bassin' boat was driftin' to a spillway on Lake Minnetonka. Can't embed the vid, but here's a screenshot:

> …took their new bass boat out Monday in a blowing wind kicking up choppy seas, said they lost steering and were driven near the spillway at Gray’s Bay Dam.

> “We were looking at all the beautiful houses, and all of the sudden the steering wheel wouldn’t turn and we were going in circles.”

> He got into the water and helped push the boat into an inlet and waited with the couple until the water patrol arrived. Then he helped the deputy get the craft tied up and ready to tow.

5. Bassin' gal o' the week.

This pic…

…reminds me of this Van Halen tune:

Tip of the Day

Tommy Biffle: Heard-headin'.

> "It works equally well all year round." The best technique is just to use the HardHead and to constantly bump it, moving it across the bottom all year round.

> The shallower you are fishing it, the faster you can move it. The deeper you are fishing, you may have to use the 11/16 or 1 ounce HardHead to keep it on bottom in order to still move it pretty quick.

> “When you use the Biffle Bug on the HardHead, you bring the hook all the way through it and let the hook lay out on the back of the Bug where it is an exposed hook point. It doesn’t get hung because the wide body and legs of the Bug keep the point from making contact with snags. You don’t skin-hook it…."

> “The hook-up ratio is probably better vs a fixed-hook football jig because the hook is exposed. They can’t throw it easily because the head is free-swinging. So when they come up to jump and throw it, only the jighead shakes back and forth instead of the head, hook and all…."

Btw here's Tommy's new look yo!

Quote of the Day

I spent all day on that fish from 9:30 until the time that I had to leave for check in, so I spent well over 5 hours trying to catch that one bass.

Kelly Jordon talkin' 'bout gettin' the cold shoulder from a 9-lber on a bed…which has happened to him in 2 Elites already. At what point do you pull the plug and move, mang??
