Today's Top 3

1. CA anglers win by 23+ lbs!

That Bocephus crazy or what? 2-day West Coast Bass Cat Owners Invitational, West Delta, 25+ a day for 51.09, father and son team of John and Lorenzo Rossetti. 2nd place was 27.83 lbs.

Variety of baits used, key was fishing the last 2-3 hours of the outgoing tide, before it started to slow.

2. XD wins again.

Usually it's the 6XD and sometimes the 10XD, but this time it was Strike King's 5XD. Keith Combs used it and some other baits to win this weekend's PAA Toyota Texas Bass Classic with 62-12 over 3 days on Lake Conroe, TX:

> He caught the majority of his offshore fish throwing a crankbait in 8-15 feet. “I was fishing trash that was located on sand flats. I fished rockpiles, brushpiles, stumps, gravel, and anything that would hold a fish. It took a lot of patience because I spent a lot of time hung up.”

> When the wind was blowing, Combs spent some time cranking shallow rocks, docks, and seawalls with a Strike King KVD 1.5 crankbait in chartreuse/black.

Beginnin' to think KD stands for "Xtra Deadly." Reminds me of this-here guy:

3. When I reached down to grab its antlers and pull its head off the ground to have a better look at it, I totally wrenched my back.

KVD talkin' 'bout hurtin' his back before the All-Star. Had no idea?

Guess who made the call to get him out there to see the dead deer? JVD. Anyone smell sumpin' s'picious…?

Here's the deer – worth it?

Tip of the Day

Davey Wolak: Footwear matters.

> Here’s a little experiment: Wear whatever pair of shoes you ‘d normally wear on the water, and note how you feel at the end of the day. Are your legs tired? Do your feet hurt? Is your back aching?

> I’d argue that the right footwear is just as important as a well-tuned reel and the right lures.

> Bass fishing keeps you on your feet, staring down at the water, for long periods of time. Fish a bunch of 10 to 12-hour days over the course of a month or so, and you might start noticing little aches and pains you never noticed before. Most of those little sore spots are a product of bad posture on the water.

> All you need to know is that your feet are the beginning of a chain that goes upward all the way to your head. So, if your feet aren’t properly supported, the next set of muscles in the chain step in. When they get tired, the next set steps in and so on and so forth. Add in an unstable, rocking boat on a choppy lake, and you’ll tire out fast if your feet aren’t properly supported.

> I typically opt for lightweight running sneakers with good arch support, and I truly believe they help me have more gas in the tank by the end of a long day.

Speakin' of which, here's B.A.S.S. shooter James' Overstreets tootsie wrapped up in a Zeko fishin' shoe at the Strike Media thang I'm at:

Quote of the Day

All for a 2-pound bass.

Rest of the quote:

> In today's high-tech world you must have a $60,000 bass boat equipped with a 250 hp outboard that's capable of racing across the lake at better than 75 mph. When you get to your destination, you lower your 100-pound thrust bow-mounted electric trolling motor, turn on your electronic fish finder with its split screen that can detect a fish hovering on the bottom, grab your $300 fishing rod with its $250 casting reel, and start flinging a $25 swimbait.

Is this guy somehow trying to make that not sound awesome?

Shot of the Day

Elite pro Dennis "TJ" at the Strike King media shindig today flippin' a Rage Tail Craw (shot by Garrick Dixon). Notice anything different 'bout it? That's right – a pale belly, just like a real craw. This one's green pumpkin/pearl belly. You should see this thing swim in the water.  Shweet!
